First off, the good news: I got elected to the Board of Directors of Indy Pride! I'm very very happy about this, and I am looking forward to getting to work.
Second, I'm sick. Blah!
It started yesterday afternoon, with a scratchiness in my throat and fullness in my chest (no, not full bosoms). I didn't sleep very well last night, and now I am faced with getting a couple reports done this morning before heading to the northside for a meaningless meeting. On top of that, I open my office door this morning and a whoosh of hot air smacks me in the face. Not good. Of any office in the entire building, mine is the one that the AC needs to work at all times. Since I do not have a dedicated computer room, I have the server sitting right next to me in the office. While I have had to swallow my techie pride and leave the thermostat at 71 instead of 68, so that I do not freeze out the two other offices on my circuit, it is really really bad for a server to heat up like this, and I'm hoping this is a recent occurrence and it didn't happen all night. Since it was just moving from 79 to 80 when I opened the door, I'm thinking it would have been much much hotter if it has been doing it for 12 hours. Blah, so now, here I am, sitting in the office with my door open and fan on full blast waiting on the AC guy to get here. I'm sweating like a whore on nickle night, and I'm reasonably pissed.
Yeah, Fucking Happy Friday!

Friday, August 22nd - One of those days... & Music Club
So...I am just 90 minutes into my day and I've dealt with fire alarms and virus infected/dysfunctional websites. Why me god?
First of all, last night was Pride Mixer night, which is when we're supposed to be attracting new members, but it is basically just another opportunity for current members to get together and drink, like we need an excuse (if the day ends in Y, then we can drink). So, long story short, I was moving slowly this morning.
Two minutes after I walk in the door for work, one of the detectives in the other building comes over and says the fire alarm is going off, which I think is odd because it is only in one part of the building and I'm not getting a call from our security company. Weird. Then that alarm ends, and the alarm goes off in my building. WTF? I haven't even had coffee yet! So, I make a call, and I find out our idiot maintenance man decided today was the day to test the alarms and he wasn't going to tell anyone. Seriously! It's like Mr. Burns deciding he's going to fuck with battered women. Nice. Oh, btw, this fucktard was just awarded our "Employee of the Month" award. My ass!
On top of that, my calendar system that I implemented on the IndyPride site has decided to malfunction, and may or may not be infecting my computer with a virus. Yes, kids.. Is it too early to start drinking again?
So anyway, I'm turning to music (and more coffee) to sooth my fevered brow:
Lady GaGa - Just Dance
Dear lord, I love this song, even if the video makes me want to take a shower.
Kerli - Walking on Air
This song has popped up quite a few times on my Yahoo Jukebox at work, and I don't know what it is about it. It just drills into your head. Entertainment Weekly reviewed the video last week, which made me seek it out, and it is just very weird and hypnotic, too. I think there are some Halloween ideas in there.
Jon McLaughlin - Beating My Heart
Just because I want to show of my new husband again, and the song is actually pretty good.

Wednesday, August 6th - The Return of the Ceiling Boobies
One year ago today, I blogged about the emergence of a tit in the ceiling of my hallway. What caused the creation of said booby was a torrential rainstorm and the apartment roof leaking. I live on the third and top floor of a pretty old apartment building, and considering at the time I moved in there was a big hole in the ceiling of the common hallway due to rain, I should have been prepared for the mammary to come. The problem was supposedly fixed last year.
Well, this has been a pretty rainy year for Indiana, and instead of one ceiling tit, I now have a full set of two and what I'm going to consider a protruding belly (the lyric from Missy Eliot's Gossip Folks comes to mind: "soggy breasts, cow stomachs" -- only she could rhyme something with that). Since the new protuberances never broke through and started leaking all over the wood floors, I just chalked it up to incessant rain and probably not something they can fix.
Well, yesterday morning, we had a line of very heavy rain come through, and I woke up to the "drip, drip, drip" of my original ceiling tit lactating all over the floor. Yes, I am very annoyed, but hey, I took it as a sign that I should stay home to nurse my ceiling tit along. I love working from home. I actually get a lot of stuff done, and I can take a nap without people in the office next to me hearing me snore.
The blog entry brought to you by the words tit, mamarries, and boobies. I cannot WAIT to see what sort of Google Searches land here!

Friday, August 1st - Normalcy...NOT
So, I was really planning on having a leisurely day at work, do some filing, and then bow out early, but NO, that's not happening. I'm still planning on cutting and running early, but certainly not as early as I planned.
Ah well. :-)
Anyway, last night was an interesting night of Karaoke. For work, someone sponsored a fundraiser for us with a live karaoke band. It was certainly a different way to do things, and for the most part, everyone was pretty darn good. It certainly brought out some latent rocker freaks, who actually brought their own HARMONICAS!
I really wish my pictures had come out better. I am still trying to master my camera, especially in dark settings. So, if anyone has any digital pictures in low lighting tips, it would be greatly appreciated, because I know Romeo and Blanche are going to want me to get this worked out before the next Bag Lady show in September.
After that, we moved on to the Metro, for Yoplait's Thursday night show. It was very dead except for a str8 girl birthday party. Now, I'm not one of those that cares if straight people come out to gay bars, but when they come out and make asses of themselves (re: bacholorette parties), well, it is just obnoxious.
Case in point:
I'm pretty sure that was the birthday girl's mother....
Ah...Class!
To wrap up the week, I want to show you a picture from a second run movie theater in Oregon. This is not photoshoped! They were in the process of switching over their marquee from Hancock to The Dark Knight....

Tuesday, April 8th - Pain in the Neck
I think yesterday was a cosmic correction day, where I thought I was doing so well, but the universe decided it was time to smack me down a little. Work wasn't so bad, and I actually got a lot done. I also ended up registering a total of 10 people to vote, including a resident in the shelter, which warms the cockles of my heart (yes, I actually do have one...somewhere). So, I leave work with the grand plan of riding my bike down to the Government Center - South, and then over to the gym. Since I was let go from the State (for party affiliation...not under-performance), it is always pretty odd for me to go back in there, especially because that building is so insecure. If I were more of a sociopath, I could probably make an incredible statement on the profundity of the current administration, but luckily, I just have an over active, Ally McBeal-sized imagination. It was just weird that I actually interviewed with the Election Commission before I eventually got a job with another agency, and it made me think for a minute how different my life would have been if I had gotten that job. I would have been much more of a professional political animal, which probably would have either left me totally burned out or quite possibly high up in the Democratic Party. Ah...weirdness...
I drop off the registrations, and I get on my bike to head across downtown to my gym. I've never actually made this trip because I am usually either biking directly to the gym or just around the canal, and since it was the height of rush hour, I decided it would be safer to ride on the sidewalks because Indiana drivers are absolutely, bat shit crazy. Since I was safely ensconced on the sidewalk, it meant that I only *almost* got hit a couple of times.
By the time I reached the gym, it was pretty packed, with the usually preening middle aged men who think they can actually lift weights, but really just sit on the bench for two hours and struggle. Surprisingly, there were a couple hotties there, which is always a pleasant respite from the old people, and I was in a good mood. I was happy where my workouts were going, with me adding weight continually through the four weeks I've been hard training, and then BAM, I don't know what happened. I struggled through my bench and incline press, and the rest of the workout was fairly lackluster. By the time I reached the crunches portion of the proceedings, I was just ready for it to be over. Then, while I was doing some dips, I moved my neck forward a little, and I felt this pull about a quarter way down my back followed by pain whenever I tried to turn my head. Not Good!
I didn't get a very good night's sleep because there was really no good way to place my head, and I'm pretty sure my cat was about ready to claw my eyes out if I didn't stop moving. And now, I kind of have to move my entire torso to move my head around, just to avoid the pain. I'm hoping against all hope that it is just a little strain, and that it will be back to normal soon. Though, secretly, I think it would be funny to have a neck brace. I kid...I kid..
Anyway, since I was downloading music from iTunes like a maniac last night, I thought it would be fun to do some music videos today.
First up, is Goldfrapp's "A&E". I love love love the song, but the video is a bit weird.
Next up is PJ Harvey's "The Letter"
Finally, something fun, Jupiter Rising's "Electropop"

Wednesday, March 26th - Ugh...Can't Come Up with a Title
Since I did three posts yesterday, I'm a bit tapped out for pithy titles. If you missed those, I have Adventures in Hillaryland, American Idol - Top 10 - Live Blog, and Can we Swap Kristie Lee Cook for her?
A few musings for the day, and my American Idol rankings...
Since you can read my basic impression on the live blog, I am not going to go into great detail.
The Top 3
A few musings for the day, and my American Idol rankings...
- Gimme a B - I've never been so proud of my alma mater of Butler University after the story broke that a student asked Chelsea Clinton about the impact of the Monica Lewinsky scandal on her mother's bid for the presidency. Seriously, what an awful thing to do. I know Chelsea is an adult now, and I am sure she has processed her feelings about the whole thing, but for someone to think that it would be OK to ask her about that in an open setting, well, it just goes to show that not everyone was raised as well as Chelsea. She handled it forcefully and well, and I commend her for it. I am also happy that the press never showed the person who asked the question. They were making a bid for fame, and I hope to never see their mug on TV. Go Bulldogs!
- Where in the World is Barack Obama? - One of the stories starting to flow under the radar in Indiana is the fact that Hillary was here last Thursday, Bill and Chelsea criss-crossed the state on Monday and Tuesday, and Hillary will be traveling around again on Friday. Barack Obama has only held one event nearly two weeks ago, and it was five minutes from the airport so he could get in and get out. Now, I am not going to begrudge anyone some vacation time, because lord knows Hillary and Barack have been going non-stop for almost a year now, but when you have favorable stories on local media about the Clintons making an honest push for the state interspersed with pictures of Obama laying on the beach, well, I have to imagine it will not sit well with the average Hoosier. Hillary took some time off at her home in New York, out of the eye of the media. Little things like this matter to the average voter, especially when it seems George W. spent more time in Crawford that the White House. At least send some surrogates, Barack, or as the political reporter from the Indianapolis Star said, Indiana is going to start looking like Clinton Country (which, of course, I'm okay with).
- Fitness Woes - Well, as a whole, I am pretty happy with the diet I am on, though I am not realizing the loss in pounds that I had hoped. I am in the third full week, and I have to say my weight has not fluctuated much at all. I am going to start modifying something today, to see if I can lower my caloric intake. The good news is that I am finally becoming one with the gym. If things go as planned, I will have worked out over 20 days this month. After three solid weeks, I have recaptured the strength gains that I had achieved before my illness plagued February. Now, if I could just start losing some poundage, I would be much happier with my overall progress.
- Gym Peeves - Back in January, I did a blog about gym etiquette, and I am ready to add another entry - The Napoleonic Overachiever. Since I've been going religiously in the morning, I have noticed this gentleman there just as much as me. He's a short and portly African American man, who was probably in great shape 10 years ago, but now, he has no idea how to get back into shape other than the workout he did when he was in shape. So, you see him struggling to do one pull up, and for some unknown reason, he insists on doing one handed pushups like he's Jack Palance or something. The trouble is he can't do them.
He just kind of pivots his head down as one rep. He ends up looking like the Drinking Bird. On top of that, he kind of struts around like he's some cock on a rock, which is just so laughable. Sure, I know that it affects the manly ego to actually use lower weights, but why sacrifice your form and your dignity just so you can struggle through one or two reps. You're wasting your time, but you're making me laugh. So, keep it up, Napoleon!
Since you can read my basic impression on the live blog, I am not going to go into great detail.
The Top 3
- David Cook - Officially, the one to beat. Unless he gets complacent...
- Sayesha - She continues to improve, but I am not sold on her consistency yet.
- Michael Johns - Yeah, I am just as surprised as you by putting him here, but he was good last night. He just doesn't really have much going for him other than rock. So, let's see what he does for Dolly next week.
- Brooke White - She's becoming a bit one note, too. She has shown us she can strip down a song into just a piano and her, but she won't be able to do that forever.
- Kristie Lee Cook - It pains me to say she was good last night, but she was very shrewd in picking "Proud to be an American." It was a good song for her, even though it made me want to puke. She should survive this week, and with Dolly next week, she's going to be around for a while. Ugh
- David Archuleta - Wow, how quickly he has dropped. He still has enough screaming women and gay men to vote for him, but he's starting to look like the Adult Contemporary Idol.
- Carly Smithson - During the live blog, I really loved her rendition of "Total Eclipse of the Heart," but absense is not making the heart grow fonder. Michael Slezak from EW before last nights show basically said that this is the one song Carly should not have picked because it is impossible to condense into 1:30. I agree. It was still good though, and I am hoping after the bottom 3 scare last week, her fans mobilized for her.
- Jason Castro - I just don't get his popularity other than he's kinda dreamy cute (without the dreads). He very well might not be in the bottom 3, but he should be.
- Chikezie - He is probably one of the best vocalists in the competition, but he just doesn't seem to always pick the right material. I don't expect him to go home, but he needs to step it up.
- Ramiele - Sorry, girl. Your rendition of "Alone" was terrible, and the fact that you shouldn't be in the top 10 just makes it harder that you are still there. I expect that to be taken care of tonight. Bubye!

Friday, March 14th - VeggieTales
This story from the Indianapolis Business Journal Daily...Yes, they do call it the IBJ Daily (don't we wish...)...pretty much typifies everything I have to say about Friday:
Suspicious package turns out to be turnip
A raw turnip was at the root of a bomb scare that lasted for hours at a Fort Wayne law office. An employee at Haller & Colvin Attorneys at Law called 911 yesterday after opening a U.S. Postal Service box and finding a suspicious gift bag inside, police said. It was unclear who was supposed to receive the vegetable....
See what I'm up against in this crazy state!!!!
Of course, I could live in Kansas:
Woman sits on boyfriend's toilet for 2 years
Girlfriend was physically stuck to the seat — her skin had grown around it
NESS CITY, Kan. - Deputies said a woman in western Kansas sat on her boyfriend's toilet for two years, and they're investigating whether she was mistreated.
Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple said a man called his office last month to report that something was wrong with his girlfriend.
Whipple said it appeared the 35-year-old Ness City woman’s skin had grown around the seat. She initially refused emergency medical services but was finally convinced by responders and her boyfriend that she needed to be checked out at a hospital.
“We pried the toilet seat off with a pry bar and the seat went with her to the hospital,” Whipple said. “The hospital removed it.”
Whipple said investigators planned to present their report Wednesday to the county attorney, who will determine whether any charges should be filed against the woman's 36-year-old boyfriend.
“She was not glued. She was not tied. She was just physically stuck by her body,” Whipple said. “It is hard to imagine. ... I still have a hard time imagining it myself.”
He told investigators he brought his girlfriend food and water, and asked her every day to come out of the bathroom.
“And her reply would be, ‘Maybe tomorrow,”’ Whipple said. “According to him, she did not want
to leave the bathroom.”
The boyfriend called police on Feb. 27 to report that “there was something wrong with his girlfriend,” Whipple said, adding that he never explained why it took him two years to call.
Police found the clothed woman sitting on the toilet, her sweat pants down to her mid-thigh. She was “somewhat disoriented,” and her legs looked like they had atrophied, Whipple said.
“She said that she didn’t need any help, that she was OK and did not want to leave,” he said.
Authorities said they did not know if she was mentally or physically disabled.

No...she's obviously of sound mind and body...

Portrait of a Sick FitnessNerd - 20 Hours Later
Well, I wouldn't say I am completely over the black plague yet, but I am certainly a lot better than I was 20 hours ago. Too bad, I won't be able to skip work tomorrow!
Here I am all showered, shaved, and ready to start another week as a Clinton partisan:
Notice the vintage Clinton/Gore shirt!
I never could have made it without the wonders of Mucinex, and the glowing, mystical eyes of my 18 year old feline nurse:

Also, just because, here are my Celebriducks, who sit quietly in my bathroom, even though they have to see me naked everyday:

Sunday, February 10th - Portrait of a Sick FitnessNerd
The cold that has been hitting me on and off for a few weeks, finally settled into my chest and made much of last week miserable for me. I finally broke down and got some Mucenex, which resulted in a flood of snot fleeing my body like Brittany Spears from the paparazzi.
I won't give you any more details, but it has been absolutely disgusting for me.
Here's a picture...the finger is for anyone who thinks I'm vain:

I really wish you could see the watery eyes...they're my pride and joy right now....
Oh, and before you think the Puffs Plus (look at the red nose) is simply an accessory for hilarity, it's actually quite functional, oh, I assure you...

Friday, January 25, 2008 - Gym Etiquette
When I got up and went to the gym on Saturday, there was a very hot guy there, whom I had never seen before. Let's call him Guido. Since I switched to the YMCA due to getting a massive discount from work, I had given up on there ever being any truly hot guys there because I was so spoiled by my previous gym, which was on a college campus. The crowd at the Y is generally older, settled, and female, though there are some cute guys. Before you think I'm a big perv, yes, I appreciate the eye candy, and I also like to see what sort of workout they're doing so I can modify mine own. Outside of that, I am not in the shower trying to get a hookup.
Anyway, Saturday was a legs day for me, and Guido was obviously doing more of a total body, superset type workout that generally drives me bonkers. We were doing different stuff so we didn't interfere with each other. Now, yesterday morning, Guido was in the gym. There were maybe 4 of us in the place. He was off doing the weighted row and some tricep pulldowns on the other side of the room. It was a majority arms day for me. So I went to the preachers bench which held the EZ curl bar. Well, apparently I had interfered with his superset, because he promptly came over and took the bar off the preachers bench, even though I was standing right next to it getting ready to use it. Ah, so Guido is an asshole, too. Perfect! He proceeded to grunt and strain like he was some pig routing for truffles, and then he set the bar down and started his rotation again, with a glance back to "mark his territory." Now, while I may not be at my best as far as weights right now, I am certainly no weakling. Instead of taking off the weight he was doing to stay in my program, I just proceeded to take the bar and do MY workout sans grunting. He literally came over, huffed, grabbed his towel and left gym. Asshole! (but still hot).
So, along with the above, here are some other annoyances from the gym:
Stink Bomb
There is a guy who works out in the morning, and he insists on doing his cardio before coming down to the weight room. This is all fine and dandy, but when he does arrive he is sopping wet and smells like a festering pile of raw sewage. I am not exaggerating that I can smell him from 20 feet away. I realize that we're all pretty prissy about our smells. Certainly, the people in the middle ages didn't know they smelled like the contents of a colon, but seriously, if you can't smell yourself when it is that bad, you really need to get your senses checked. Not to mention he uses equipment and will wipe his brow but NOT the bench.
Chatty Cathy
These are usually "gym partners," who are basically so unmotivated they need someone else to prod them to go to the gym. Do us a favor, if you can't make yourself go, then maybe you're just destined to be a fat ass. Certainly, if you do go, PLEASE do not stand around between sets and discuss stuff. Working out is about intensity, and if you're standing there talking about "America's Next Top Model," you're not fooling anyone. I am there to do one thing, and that is workout. If you want to stand around and essentially do each others hair, then do it on your own time.

This person is generally at the gym when I arrive and still there when I leave. They will do one exercise, and then proceed to get up and walk around the weight room like they're trying to reach their goal on the pedometer. They may even leave their towel there as a sign that no one else can take it. I've been known to knock towels off and feign ignorance when they say "I was using that machine." Asshole...
The Screamer & Tourettes
These two go hand in hand, and could also be the same person. The screamer is the type of person that will make noises like Monica Seles no matter how little weight he is lifting. Tourettes will load up the bar with so much weight, make a big production about it, and then proceed to spout expletives (maybe even scream them) like everyone in the gym gives a rats ass that he's a certifiable idiot.
