Tuesday, December 16th - Twitterpated

Random Thoughts (It's like Twitter, but I'm just too lazy to open up another account to spew my ramblings):
  • 8:41 am- If you need a time waster, check this out: Bush Shoe Throwing Game
  • 11:00 am - There is a play in SF called Abraham Lincoln's Big Gay Dance Party. Hmmm...I wouldn't mind seeing that, but only if Mary Todd is strung out on E.
  • 11:56 am - The sequel to Twilight, New Moon, has been given a release date: November 20, 2009. Let's see, they haven't started filming, they just announced a new director, and even though I haven't read it yet, I understand it is much more special effect heavy. Sounds like a disaster in the making, where Twilight was a pleasant surprise.
  • 12:41 pm - Every year, I go through this same process: "What to get Grandma for Christmas?" My grandmother is the personification of ADHD shopping. If she wants something, she buys it, and that makes it next to impossible to buy gifts. We finally got her to create an Amazon wish list, and it is full of cat calendars. CAT CALENDARS! My grandmother, the crazy cat lady! So, I'm thinking I may get her a kitty litter box. My cat likes her new one :-D
  • 4:41 pm - Wine. Wall-E or Tropic Thunder. Lego Batman for the Wii. My Cat. The Real Housewives of Orange County (horrifying...I know). Whatever Martha! Homemade Beef Stew in the Crock Pot (the only thing about winter I enjoy anymore). Read some more of The Mists of Avalon. And you have my night. Cheers!

Second Post - The Ring

I've mentioned before my eternal hatred of the "Saved by Zero" campaign by Toyota. I hate it so much, I might not ever consider purchasing a Toyota ever again. The worst part about it is how often it plays.

Well now, it seems, it is killing people:

November 21st - Welcome to My Home

Kudos to Jeremy over at in a vault underground for pointing out the video that became the inspiration for this post. Something funny to send us into the weekend...

Brenda Dickson was a former beauty queen who became an actress on The Young and the Restless in the '80s. At the "height" of her fame, she made a video called "Welcome to My Home," which I actually saw after the parodies, which made it all the more funny. It is 10 minutes long, but if you watch the first few minuutes, I think you'll get the idea.

The above video begat a series of parodies by Julie Klausner and Jackie Clarke, who happen to have their own website @ http://www.julieandjackie.com/

Welcome to Our House #1: Fashion

Welcome to Our House #2: Exuhcise

Welcome to Our House #3: Hygiene & Make-up

Welcome to Our House #4: Romance & Dating (I think this is my favorite)

And as proof that all fairy tales come to an end, our dear Brenda showed up on The Soup last year:

Tuesday, November 18th - Blog Crush

Since the day has gotten away from me a bit, I'm going to dedicate the space to a blog crush from my blog roll:

Wednesday, November 12th - Scholarship Time, Prop 8, Batman Vs. Batman

Last night I had the pleasure to go through 9 applications for scholarships being handed out by Indy Pride. While some of them were very good and some of them were very bad (atrocious comes to mind), I honestly cannot think of me doing anything greater with my board membership in Indy Pride than giving out money to a deserving person working to further their education. While I honestly complained loudly about the bad ones, I was actually quite humbled by the whole process -- though I am not looking forward to the meeting tonight to discuss the candidates, just because I know there are going to be some tough discussions that go beyond scholarship and into the major idiosyncrasies and beliefs of various members of the board. In the end though, I feel this is something amazing. I'm reveling in it.

The Special Comment that Keith Olbermann did on his show on Monday is quickly going around the internet, but I cannot watch it. I think he is the worlds biggest douchebag, and he took that crown from Bill O'Reilly. So, instead of giving props to him, I posit this video posted on Funny Or Die, which actually isn't very funny at all, but I think it actually underscores the fight as it now stands:

--------------------------------------------

Finally, I just came across this story on Variety.com. Seriously...

Mayor of Batman sues WB, Nolan
Southeastern city in Turkey fights for name
By ALI JAAFAR

The mayor of an oil-producing city in southeastern Turkey, which has the same name as the Caped Crusader, is suing helmer Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros. for royalties from mega-grosser "The Dark Knight."

Huseyin Kalkan, the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party mayor of Batman, has accused "The Dark Knight" producers of using the city's name without permission.

"There is only one Batman in the world," Kalkan said. "The American producers used the name of our city without informing us."

No one from the town of Batman has explained why it took so many years to take legal action. Batman first appeared as a comicbook character in 1939 and the "Batman" TV series started in 1966. Tim Burton's first bigscreen rendition for Warner Bros. came out in 1989. Undoubtedly the fact that "Dark Knight" is about to pass the $1 billion mark at the B.O. played a part in stirring the ire of the Turkish hamlet.

The mayor is prepping a series of charges against Nolan and Warner Bros., which owns the right to the Batman character, including placing the blame for a number of unsolved murders and a high female suicide rate on the psychological impact that the film's success has had on the city's inhabitants.

Former natives of Batman are also said to have encountered obstacles when attempting to register their businesses abroad.

The mayor is working on gathering evidence he claims will show that the city of Batman predates the 1939 debut of Bob Kane's superhero in DC Comics.

"We are only aware of this claim via press reports and have not seen any actual legal action," a Warner Bros. rep said in a statement.

While the town of Batman has suddenly shown great interest in the property, there's no evidence that the citizenry has ever shown much loyalty to the Caped Crusader -- not even on Halloween.

Tuesday, October 21st - "I'm Gunna Kick Some Ass with my Own Pipewrench"

For reference, the title comes from the YouTube video below, but more on that in a minute...

I know I have been less than substantive in my blog posts lately, and it is not that I do not have that much to say (okay, maybe it is). However, October has been an inordinately busy month at work and extra-curricularly (is that even a word?), which has really just kind of left me in a literary lurch -- not knowing where to even begin. When I first started blogging, I went on and on at great detail about what is happening, and I'm not sure anyone gave a damn about it.

Since I'm not feeling the need to produce interconnected narrative, I'm just going to bullet the things swirling in my head right now:
  • Halloween - I'm going to admit a gay sacrilege.  I'm not a huge fan of Halloween.  I do love that other people get into it so much, and I certainly enjoy all the creative outfits.  However, when it comes to me in a costume, well, I'd rather just skip it.  The fact that it is a Gay High Holy Month, just makes it all the worse, because god forbid, we actually wear the same outfit twice.  So, I'm faced with buying two outfits for a party on Friday and the Bag Lady Bus Tour on Saturday.  Oy!  At least I know what I'm going to go as (Herman Munster & The Mad Hatter), but finding the time between now and Friday to hit Goodwill is just going to be nigh on impossible.  I'm considering taking a half day on Thursday.  We'll see.  I'll also need to get a third outfit for the Grande Masquerade on the 1st.  Oy...
  • Parking Tickets - I will be starting my third year at my current apartment, and with my lease renewal, I sent in some minor complaints that I would love to have addressed.  The first, of course, was the fixing of my ceiling tit, which doesn't leak anymore...it just looks ugly.  The second was I noticed my french doors leaked a little when they were getting pelted with rain, which doesn't happen often because they are east facing, but it is more the notion that if they leak water they certainly leak air.  Finally, I wanted them to repaint the lines in the parking lot because they have faded so badly, my nimrod neighbors can't seem to park in anyway resembling an organized fashion.  Oddly, they've painted the handicap places, which is funny because not only do you have to go down steps to get to the buildings, there are no elevators.  So, if you're handicap, this is not the building for you.  Anyway, my complaint is because we tend to be full on weekends, not because of too many cars, but because the neighbors park stupidly.  So, when I get home late at night, I can't find a parking place, which is what happened on Sunday.  Now, we share a lot with some sort of half way house (yeah no clue), and the only spot left was one marked for employees.  Well, since my only other option was to sit in the lot and wait for someone to leave, which was unlikely at 11:00 on a Sunday night, I just took the spot.  Yeah, I know.  When I went out to get in my car to go the Grand Masquerade meeting, I had a parking ticket -- in my own parking lot!  PISSED!
  • OMG is Dead - Appropos of nothing, I sent my mother a link from the Indianapolis Business Journal (IBJ - Daily...HA!), that talked about the dump in our hometown being fitted with generators to convert methane gas to electricity.  I grew up out in the country near a lot of farmland, but about 4 miles from my house was also the aforementioned dump, which might explain the third eye that I desperately try to conceal.  I thought it was a cool idea that my mother would find interesting.  And then it happened.  My 61 year old mother replied with "OMG! I wonder if your grandmother knows about this!" My Mother.  Actually typed..."OMG!".  Seriously... (though as a sidebar, I giggled at the end of Gossip Girl last night when they showed the first album of original music used in the series is being called OMFGG - Original Music Featured on Gossip Girl - that I choose to actually think is Oh My eFFin Gossip Girl).
So anyway....onto the video.

Have you ever watched a music video that seems to actually have nothing to do with the song lyrically.  Well, someone on YouTube has recorded a literal lyrical version of "Take on Me" by A-Ha.  It's pretty hysterical!

Friday, October 17th - She Fell Down

So this is just another reason why I won't invest in a video cam so I can start video blogging (yes, the thought had crossed my mind). I might try and do a music video or something.

Tuesday, September 16th - Do It Like They Do On the Discovery Channel

I'm sick at home for the second day (sore throat, buckets of phlegm, look like hell). So, anyway, I came across this picture on one of my favorite sites, Cute Overload:

Second, I was sitting watching the news last night in and out of a Mucenex induced coma, and I saw something appear in a frame, that I was pretty sure wasn't supposed to be there.  The story was about wire fencing that they're putting all along I65 to prevent out of control drivers crossing the median, and they showed the aftermath of one of the wrecks:

I dunno, something looks wrong here.  What do you think?

Wednesday, August 27th - Intervention and Commercials

I'm on another deadline, so no big posts, but I came across this today, which makes me love Kristen Chenoweth even more.

How long until I see a Bag Lady do this?

See more Kristin Chenoweth videos at Funny or Die

Which made me think of these SNL Commercials:

Tressant Supreme (Kelly Ripa):

Annuale (Tina Fey, Amy Polar, Kristin Wiig, some other chick):

Friday, August 22nd - One of those days... & Music Club

So...I am just 90 minutes into my day and I've dealt with fire alarms and virus infected/dysfunctional websites. Why me god?

First of all, last night was Pride Mixer night, which is when we're supposed to be attracting new members, but it is basically just another opportunity for current members to get together and drink, like we need an excuse (if the day ends in Y, then we can drink). So, long story short, I was moving slowly this morning.

Two minutes after I walk in the door for work, one of the detectives in the other building comes over and says the fire alarm is going off, which I think is odd because it is only in one part of the building and I'm not getting a call from our security company. Weird. Then that alarm ends, and the alarm goes off in my building. WTF? I haven't even had coffee yet! So, I make a call, and I find out our idiot maintenance man decided today was the day to test the alarms and he wasn't going to tell anyone. Seriously! It's like Mr. Burns deciding he's going to fuck with battered women. Nice. Oh, btw, this fucktard was just awarded our "Employee of the Month" award. My ass!

On top of that, my calendar system that I implemented on the IndyPride site has decided to malfunction, and may or may not be infecting my computer with a virus. Yes, kids.. Is it too early to start drinking again?

So anyway, I'm turning to music (and more coffee) to sooth my fevered brow:

Lady GaGa - Just Dance

Dear lord, I love this song, even if the video makes me want to take a shower.

Kerli - Walking on Air

This song has popped up quite a few times on my Yahoo Jukebox at work, and I don't know what it is about it. It just drills into your head. Entertainment Weekly reviewed the video last week, which made me seek it out, and it is just very weird and hypnotic, too. I think there are some Halloween ideas in there.

Jon McLaughlin - Beating My Heart

Just because I want to show of my new husband again, and the song is actually pretty good.

Monday, August 18th - Idiot Georgia

I'm writing a longer weekend wrap up, but I came across this today. It made me laugh pretty hard (especially the responses), but I suppose, if there was a former Soviet Republic of Indiana, I might not laugh so much...

Friday, August 1st - Normalcy...NOT

So, I was really planning on having a leisurely day at work, do some filing, and then bow out early, but NO, that's not happening. I'm still planning on cutting and running early, but certainly not as early as I planned.

Ah well. :-)

Anyway, last night was an interesting night of Karaoke. For work, someone sponsored a fundraiser for us with a live karaoke band. It was certainly a different way to do things, and for the most part, everyone was pretty darn good. It certainly brought out some latent rocker freaks, who actually brought their own HARMONICAS!

I really wish my pictures had come out better. I am still trying to master my camera, especially in dark settings. So, if anyone has any digital pictures in low lighting tips, it would be greatly appreciated, because I know Romeo and Blanche are going to want me to get this worked out before the next Bag Lady show in September.

After that, we moved on to the Metro, for Yoplait's Thursday night show. It was very dead except for a str8 girl birthday party. Now, I'm not one of those that cares if straight people come out to gay bars, but when they come out and make asses of themselves (re: bacholorette parties), well, it is just obnoxious.

Case in point:

I'm pretty sure that was the birthday girl's mother....

Ah...Class!

To wrap up the week, I want to show you a picture from a second run movie theater in Oregon. This is not photoshoped! They were in the process of switching over their marquee from Hancock to The Dark Knight....

Tuesday, July 29th - I Just Threw Up A Little In My Mouth

I'm not really going to have much time to blog this week, but I saw this online and I had to comment.

*barf*

Trailer for W (The George W Bush Movie by Oliver Stone)

As much as that fucktard deserves a good pillorying. Do they actually think people are going to see this? I would go if it was done in the style of The Naked Gun movies, but then again, Leslie Neilson is more presidential than W.

Wednesday, July 23rd - Everything is Better in French

While I was searching for high resolution pictures of the Moulin Rouge (the actual windmill and landmark) for a postcard I am designing, I tried to see if any of the movie sites were still live with pictures, and I came across the 20th Century Fox France site, which had an advertisement for a movie called Spartatouille. Hmmmm?  You mean like Ratatouille?  As I dug further, I realized it was the French name for that crappy spoof movie, Meet the Spartans. It *almost* makes it funnier. Almost...
