Interesting Day to Say the Least

While yesterday's post was mostly about navel gazing and bringing you up to speed with my life in the interim, it really should have been about what was going on in the public sphere here in Indiana and in other state's, too.  I'm talking about the Supreme Court deciding to affirm the lower court rulings by choosing to not hear the appeals from state's opposed to same sex marriage.  While I have always been optimistic about marriage here in Indiana, which is a fact I would imagine most people outside of the state would find to be borderline insane, but when we started the year, my hope was that this would actually go to referendum, because I think the people of Indiana, Hoosiers, are much more pragmatic and libertarian than most people believe.  Sure, there are loud pockets of the ultra conservative, but I firmly believe that Hoosier's are much more a "live and let live" type of people, and when it comes right down to it, individual rights trump religious belief.  Sure, I think it would have been close, but I think we would have prevails.  It also would have been a bit more satisfying than what happened yesterday.  Don't get me wrong, I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall to hear what the Justices talked about during their closed door sessions, but having it end in a silent affirmation was just anti-climatic, though no less of a surprise.

Last night I went out to the victory party, which was actually a lot less exuberant than the one in June.  It was a good time, and I got to stand around and talk politics, which is always a good thing. Maybe it was the alcohol.  Maybe it was the talk of husbands and #LoveIsLove, but I actually asked someone out.

Me.

Asked someone out....

This hasn't happened in years.  Lord.
