Monday, July 14th - Thank God, the Summer Season is Here!

Throughout bouts of political and music nerdiness on here, I've made no bones about the fact that I am a television nut. I wouldn't exactly say I'm a couch potato, because the DVR has freed me from having to deal with actually watching television shows during their normal time slots. I've become very efficient at keeping up with my shows, but I have been pretty bereft since the usual television season ended in May. Thankfully, in the past few weeks, some of the shows I got hooked on last summer have started their seasons, and with Saving Grace starting tonight and Project Runway on Wednesday, I'm going to be back in front the TV a lot more.

Here's what I've been watching and what I'll be watching:
  • In Plain Sight - USA - Sunday's 9:00 - This is just one of those shows that I saw the good reviews and I thought I would check it out.  It has quickly become one of my favorite shows.  Mary McCormack plays Mary, a flawed (aren't they all) US Marshall working in the Witness Relocation program.  She's snarky and sarcastic, so of course, I love her.  It's been on for a while, so I'm not sure how long the rest of its season is, but you should check it out.
  • Burn Notice - USA - Thursday @ 10 - I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this show!  It is very much like James Bond crossed with Macgyver. The oddly hot, Jeffery Donovan, plays Michael Westen, a former superspy who has been inexplicably "burned," which is just a fancy way of saying fired and left for dead.  He's trying to find out why, and his life is complicated by his former flame, Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar); a useful but high maintenance friend, Sam (Bruce Campbell); and a wonderfully manic mother played by Sharon Gless.  Add in Tricia Hefler from Battlestar Galactica as his new handler and Miami as a backdrop, and this is just one of the best shows on television.
  • Saving Grace - TNT - Monday @ 10 - I would watch Holly Hunter read me the menu from McDonald's, which makes me much more willing to endure what is a pretty heavy handed drama on finding your right path in the world.  Since there is an angel involved, it is very much like an alcohol soaked version of Highway to Heaven, but it is pretty a pretty good show with a great cast, and hell, Bailey Chase is gorgeous and not in the show enough.
  • Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List - Bravo - Thursday @ 10 - I'm finally catching up on these episodes because I had completely forgot the 4th season had started, but oh dear, this show is cracking my shit up this season.  Yes, I know half (or more) of the stuff is staged, but it is so damn funny.  It's nice not to have to really think about it.
  • Project Runway - Bravo - Wednesday @ 9 (New Time) -I'm a little scared about this one.  Even though Christian was a great winner last season, I have to say that most of the challenges were pretty lame, and when you mix that up with this possibly/probably being the last season on Bravo before moving to Lifetime, losing the producers who created it, and a move for some of the episodes to LA from NYC, I just think there is a lot that could go wrong and make this gem tank, big time.
I'll see what I can do to do some reviews of these shows.  Plus, I'm finally going to set foot in a movie theater for the first time in a long time to see The Dark Knight in IMAX this weekend.  Woo Hoo!

I think Holly Hunter is a great actress. I think I first noticed her in Home For The Holidays. Nothing like taking your parents to see that movie on Thanksgiving night.

Kathy Griffin had me cackling when she was in SYD.

PR...I'm a bit nervous because I read an interview with Tim Gunn. He said the contestants wore him out.
