Wednesday, February 6th - Super Tuesday Hangover

I'm not going to write much today, because after doing a live blog of the Super Tuesday events, I did a total of 4 posts yesterday.

I'm sorry for this being an all politics all the time blog lately, but it has just been what I am most interested in at the moment. I may take a little time off because there aren't any big primary battles until Wisconsin on March 4th.

Some thoughts:
  • Obama supporters are smug bastards. I have witnessed it a lot just perusing blogs and other comment areas online, but for a group of people that are for unity, they uniformly call Hillary everything BUT a white woman. I may not like Obama as a candidate, but he will have my vote in November (if he gets the nomination). However, between smugness and the thin skin of their candidate and his supporters, they have made this a personal vendetta against Hillary. Yes, Bill Clinton was wrong and an asshole in South Carolina, but the fact that Obama's supporters continue to race-bait has made this campaign more about race than anything Bill had to say. Sure, Obama has encouraged a lot of people to vote, but if they are going to be this negative, I wish they'd just go back to their non-voting, unpatriotic selves (I don't really mean that. Voting is important, but this is my blog!).
  • Proportional Delegation - I think the Democrats had the right idea to hand out delegates proportionally. However, I think it should be the vote total for the entire state, not by congressional district. In having it by district, you run the risk of someone winning the popular vote but losing the delegate count because another candidate ran strongly in individual districts. This leads to a situation like the general election in 2000. Al Gore had the popular vote, but he lost the Electoral College. It wasn't fair then, and it isn't fair now.
  • Oprah is Useless, or How Stars Have No Influence Over Anyone - The Obama people thought having the Kennedy's in their court would give them Massachusetts. It didn't happen. The cumulative power of Teddy, John Kerry, and the Governor could not deliver the state to them. They also trotted Michelle Obama, Oprah, Caroline Kennedy, and Maria Shriver out in California to try to get the women to vote for Obama. It didn't happen. Maybe the Obama campaign should stop relying on "rock stars" and empty speeches. It would be great if he actually started talking about how he's going to magically get the Congress to pass all this "hopeful" legislation he plans to introduce (you know, since he can't do it all by Executive Order).
Alright, I've already written more than I planned. I don't want to toot my own horn, but I have to say I had a great time live blogging last night. Here is my favorite post of the night:

10:08 - Huckster is talking now. I guess maybe he has evolved in this race...much to the chagrin of Jesus.
