Thursday, January 3, 2008 - Frigid Bitch

These are the days that I truly hate winter. I can handle temperatures in the 20-30 range, but when they're down around zero and you step outside and you can feel your nose hairs freeze, well, this is when I start to get the old age dream of living in Arizona!

And I guess you can say that I broke my resolution already because my plan was to get up yesterday morning and go to the gym to avoid the after work crowds of people who only workout for two weeks at the first of the year then give up. When I woke up at 5:25, I quickly realized that there was no way in hell that I was going to crawl out of bed, get bundled up, and drive to the gym. So, instead, I just went to work early, and when I got done with work, even though it was sunny outside, it was actually worse than the morning because this terrible wind had whipped up. I just went home and did about 30 minutes of push-ups and crunches, which has to count for something, right?

Yesterday was also the first day that I was fully back on my diet. Monday really doesn't count because I slept until 11am, and Tuesday was a bit of wash because I ate at Arby's before going to the movies with Romeo and Maestro. Even though I thought I was being good and getting a turkey and bacon toasted sub (no mayo), I was a bit disheartened to see that the ciabatta bread pushed the total calorie count up over 560, with the bread more than half that. I know I should be more aware than that, but I at least tried to be good. The fat count was only 11g, and carbs, as expected, were in the 60g range. Beyond that, I was happy that I resisted the urge for popcorn drenched in buttery topping and salt at the theater. I miss salt.

As for the diet, as I said on Monday, here is the graph from FitDay:

I totally met my protein goal for the day, though it is a bit higher than planned because I ate dinner too early and got insanely famished around the time Project Runway started. So, instead of popping some popcorn or eating a yogurt, I ate about 4oz of chicken, which bumped me up 100 calories and 26g of protein. Yes, I know, Oprah says you shouldn't eat after 7:30, but there are just as many studies that prove that eating lean protein or even drinking a protein shake before bed is a good thing because it prevents your body from feeding on your muscles during the night. I've known enough people who actually wake up at 2am to drink a shake to counteract the combined power of Oprah and Bob Greene.

The good news is that I'm down 2 pounds this morning, which I understand is probably just water, but it is the little victories folks!

I know you will think that I am a wimp but...

it was 34degrees this morning when I met up with runnerOne for a run at the park and it was COLD! It doesn't get that cold here very often.

You have bigger cajones than I do for doing the calorie count. LOL I'm afraid to know what I'm eating.

Yes, wimp! That would be a freakin heatwave here. The weird thing is that it is supposed to hit 60 by Monday, with a chance of thunderstorms! That'sa 50 degree swing!

As for calorie counts, I'm really just doing it to record protein intake. You should do it for a day and be honest. It is really interesting (and enlightening) to see where your cals, fat, carbs, and protein are coming from.
