Tuesday, January 22, 2008 - After the long weekend...

I will be continuing my recently created tradition of two posts today, mainly because I am bursting at the seams with a politically themed entry (shock!) concerning the Nevada Caucus and South Carolina Debate last night. So, expect that one later on in the day.

As for the long weekend, it was relatively uneventful. I was able to spend time with Tyler on both Friday and Saturday night, which was a welcome bonus. Since it was frigid here in Indy over the weekend, I made a crock pot full of Beef & Chicken Stew and a big batch of corn bread for us to eat on Saturday night. Obviously, this is way off the diet, but while I tend to avoid red meat, I added in the chicken for another kick of lean protein. While I followed the tradition in my family of putting noodles into the stew, I opted to use the protein enriched Barilla Plus. So, I do not feel so bad about it, though I am sure the sodium was through the roof. Now, the corn bread is another entity in entirely. I really do not even want to think of that nutritional value (or lack thereof). It had sour cream in it because I had a tub of it leftover from another recipe. I LOVE corn bread, and it turned out so well.

Saturday night, we watched a PBS Nature show that I had recorded for Tyler. He's a plant nut, and this was about seeds and plants and their ambition to take over the world. Evolution is an interesting thing, especially when the show posited that at least two plant seeds endeavor to be digested and shit out of animals to complete their germination. Of course, with this being a nature special, it had to show the Aardvark and Emu farting and shitting. It was rather weird, and I wasn't expecting this show to end up being a German shiza video. After that show was over, we started in on the first DVD in the Planet Earth series. It is pretty great, and I am looking forward to getting through the rest of it.

Lord...beef stew and nature shows on a Saturday night. I think we might officially be one of "those" couples.

Sunday, I met up with the Mean Girls, Athena, Mom, and Roqstar to see Cloverfield. I thought it was a really great movie, but even though I went in knowing it was a Blair Witch type of hand held camera film, I was still quite motion sick from the experience. I really do not recall being that sick at Blair Witch, but there wasn't as much running in that one. I don't think I was ever on the verge of throwing up, but ugh, it was intense at times. I recommend the movie, but if you suffer from extreme motion sickness, then you may want to skip it or wait for the DVD.

Yesterday, I didn't do much of anything other than go to the gym. It is so nice to finally be back in the rhythm of going to the gym. This will be week 3 of my 12 week toning program, and while I am slowly making modifications to the workout, I am still pretty happy with what I am doing and the results. I will need to start deciding what I am going to do when the 12 weeks are up. It is so important to find something that engages me, otherwise I will find a reason not to do it, and hopefully, after 9 more weeks, it will be warm enough to let me ride my bike some. Also, yesterday I did research on supplements to take for fat burning, and I am going to check out the prices at Costco this weekend for Selenium, Zinc, and DHEA. If anyone has any experience taking these, please leave a comment. I'll do a separate blog entry on them, if I can afford to take them.

Also, here is my workout from last week. The days are a bit off because of my lack of motivation on Wednesday, but I am happy I made adjustments and still got to the gym three times, even on Saturday morning. I did skip the abs part of the workout on Saturday because I was in a hurry, but the victory was being there and doing legs. All three days, I tried to add weight where appropriate. It wasn't always a good plan, but I will continue to add weight and reps (to the max number).
