A couple of years ago, I picked up a series of books called His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman. I cannot in any sort of way summarize them for you here because to do so would not do them any justice, but for a book aimed at children (like Harry Potter is, too), these novels deal with decidedly adult themes of the role of religion in society and the contents of ones soul as they progress to adulthood.

The Golden Compass, the first book in the series, is coming out in movie form in December, and as a promotion on the website, you can create your own daemon. Daemon's in the books are pretty much physical manifestations of your soul, and when you are a child, the daemon can shift shapes. When you reach puberty, your daemon becomes its final form. Anyway, I created mine, and my friends and blog readers can comment on it before it takes its final form in 12 days.
