Friday, October 12, 2007 - Everything Else

Before I launch into the much delayed recounting of the trip to French Lick, I'll catch you up with a bit of what I did yesterday.

Even though I am bogged down in monthly, quarterly, and an annual report at work, I was able to get out of the office yesterday and go to a giant schmooze-fest put on by the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce. I am volunteering for these weird things that other people do not want to do because I want to set up a pattern of my willingness to do things that must be done, and it dovetails nicely into what I would like to eventually do here. Yes, it is calculated, as is ever email I send detailing the woes of reporting. I am a conniver, and I am comfortable with that. Plus, I figure the more noise I make for myself in the community, the more likely I am to find something if I need just cut my loses here. Anyway, this was a structured lunch which was basically set up like speed dating, only for businesses. During the course of the event, you moved to four different tables, and at each table, everyone was given two minutes to give a spiel about their work and to answer questions. It was kind of weird in a fascinating way. It was kind of nice to dress up and leave the office for a few hours!

I did end up going back to work for a bit before heading home, and then I met Blanche and Romeo out for another drag related fundraiser for AIDSwalk. This was at Talbott Street which is near my apartment, so that makes things a bit easier. Most of the characters making up this even were Bag Ladies, which is a group that has been affiliated with various organizations over it's 26 year history. It is currently a part of IndyPride, and they do fund raisers throughout the year for numerous gay and lesbian groups around town. They are also sponsoring the Bag Lady Bus tour the weekend before Halloween, and since we're going to be on it, I will have a wonderful blog after that! The point of the Bag Ladies really isn't to look good in drag, but to be funny and over-the-top. So, it is the difference between a female "illusionist and a guy in a dress. It is quite funny, and it was good to get out.

After I left there, I came home and watched Grey's Anatomy, which I am happy to say is finally completely back on track. I LOVED last night's episode.
