Friday, September 28, 2007 - Audra McDonald Edition
In my first post of the day, I provided a review of the new show, Private Practice, and one of the new stars of that show is Audra McDonald, who at a very young age has already won 4 Tony Awards for her work on the stage. She has an angelic, operatic voice that is just crystal clear, and she is not your typical showtunes diva. I have two of her albums, which pretty much shun most of the "greatest" hits, and her voice just gives me the chills.
The first song is "The Stars and the Moon" from an obscure 90's show called Songs for the New World. While I enjoy the album version a bit more than this live version, it is just a FANTASTIC song.
Here's another that shows off her vocals a bit better, and the story behind the song is kind of funny, too. The song is from a musical from 1917 called Oh Lady, Lady, but it later showed up in Showboat. It is called "Bill."
