Today has been one of those absolutely obnoxious days that really just make you fear the phone ringing. In fact, this is one of those days that I never even pick up the phone directly unless it is the Executive Director. As much as I hate the ringing, when I am in a mood like this, I would much rather listen to a voice mail than actually talk to people.

Backing up to yesterday, I cooked dinner for the first time for Tyler last night, and it all turned out pretty well. I made a specialty of mine, Penne Pasta with Spicy Tomato Cream Sauce and Chicken Sausage, and I concocted a really great garlic bread out of the pizza dough you buy in a tube. I spread out the dough, and then I put some homegrown basil leaves and rosemary on one end, and folded it over, spread it out, folded it over again, etc. Then instead of making a true pesto. I made a pesto butter that turned out even better than I could have hoped. I put more basil, rosemary, and garlic into the food processor, and then I put in two sticks of butter to mix it all together. I then spread this out on top of the bread, and then put parmesan and mozzarella cheese on top of that. It was kick ass! Needless to say, this is MUCH fattier a meal than I would normally have during the week, but Tyler loved it, which is pretty much all that matters. :)

Oh, and another weird thing to add to the list... We're sitting in my dining area, and all of a sudden Tyler asks, "Where did you get that?" He was referring to this piece of art, which is basically a vase of flowers painted on a heavy piece of wood. I've had it since I moved away from college, when my grandmother was giving stuff away. Anyway, I wouldn't say it is something I've been incredibly attached to, but it has hung in my dining area at many different places. Anyway, as it turns out, his AUNT MADE IT! How weird is that?

After dinner, Tyler, being the master gardener, re-potted one of my plants for me, adding in a couple of plants that he bought for me. Yeah, it's about time I put him to work. Then we played the Wii some, which was entertaining because I think he enjoyed himself a lot more than he anticipated. Since it was hot again yesterday and I was running the oven, the apartment was really warm, too, which is kind of where the downhill slide to work today began. It is always pretty hard to fully heat and cool my living room because there are so many windows in it. It is certainly not as bad as my last apartment. Even after we were done playing with the Wii (har har), we just laid on the couch and watched TV, and it was still pretty sweltering. After we went to bed, I was still pretty uncomfortable, and the bedroom is usually the coolest room in the place. I ended up getting up in the middle of the night and turning the AC down even further and pointing the fan right on us. I am sure you see where this is going? While being tired from not being able to sleep because I was annoyed it was so warm and because Tyler might be uncomfortable, I also woke up with a prickly throat...the day was shot before it began.

I slept in today because I have a meeting tonight at 6 (it is now 5:50...not sure I'll be able to finish this). So, I figured I would just go in late and work up until the meeting. I think the only thing it accomplished was throwing my whole day off. After getting a phone call at 8:30 because of a malfunctioning keyboard (!), I knew the natives were going to be restless, too. Okay....have to leave for the meeting. :)

Back. Anyway, I get this numbers request for, due tomorrow mind you, that was absolutely next to impossible to complete. It was from one of the many self-proclaimed groups that try to organize us and it is also for one of the local media outlets. This is exactly the part of my job that I despise. As you know, reporting is a large part of what I do, but I also have to get people numbers and stuff for grants, etc. With all of these things, I really only get a week and a half or so to do IT, which is, hello, what they hired me for. My Thursday was down the tube even further... It is really frustrating for me because in the year I have been doing reporting, I have watched so much fall to the wayside that would not be at all acceptable in any other position. I would really just like to do the IT work (or something else...which is what I'm attempting), and frankly, something has got to give really soon. So annoyed....
