Well folks, I am still sick, and it sucks! I did manage to get an okay nights sleep last night, so I do not feel like the walking dead like I did Saturday morning. I have to imagine that was more the NyQuil than anything else. As it stands now, I haven't worked out since Wednesday, and I am starting to feel like a schlub. Plus, when I'm sick, I tend to not stick to the diet in lieu of things that are quick and easy. I don't know if working out is in the cards today either, and it is blisteringly hot here...so biking may not work either
Speaking of Saturday, I have to tell you about my car. I have leased a Honda Accord for the past 4 years, and while I have heard great things about the vaunted Japanese automaker, my little car has had a lot of quirks. I wouldn't say they are deal breaker quirks, but silly stuff like the lever to pop the trunk stopped working and my windows would pretty much decide if they wanted to go up and down by themselves. Anyway, my lease was coming to term, and I needed to decide if I wanted to purchase the vehicle, lease another one, or purchase something else. The big thing is that I do not like to drive. I live a block from work, and I ride my bike to the gym. So, really, I only drive on the weekends. In four years, I have put 29,000 miles on my car (my lease put a limit of 12,000 a year). I call up the dealer to enquire about purchasing the car because what I would really like to have is lower payments, and the guy encourages me to come into the dealer to see what he can do for me. Uh oh...car dealership and I'm sick as a dog. Not a great combination. I make the appointment telling the dealer that I have a couple spots of damage on my car from where someone backed into me and drove off and from me running into a small snow drift trying to get to the keypad of my gated parking. He seemed to think it wouldn't be a problem (or at least I thought so...he was Korean, and I could barely understand him).
Saturday morning, high on cold pills and Starbucks, I go to the dealer...god I hate car dealships! Two hours later, I'm driving away with a brand new, red, 2007 Honda Accord! Not only did Honda take my car with the damage and no penalty to me, but they also payed my first payment! That's right...I pretty much dropped off my car and drove off with a new one...no money changed hands! When you take into consideration that my insurance premium will not go up now because I do not have to report the damage AND the fact that my old car was running on fumes and they gave me a full tank of gas, I really made out like a bandit!
Now, if I could just get rid of this sickness, I would be a happy man. Oh, one more thing, I went to see Transformers on Friday, and while I was/am a big Transformers nerd from my youth, I was okay with the changes they made to move the story into the real world. I suppose my only real complaints were that the fights were a little hard to follow sometimes and that I really wanted more of the robots. Transformers was about the robots with humans sprinkled in...not the other way around. It was kind of a geekgasym to hear Optimus say "Megatron" again, and when he said "One shall stand, one shall fall" which is directly from the animated movie, I swear I almost got a geek boner. lol :-) All in all, it is a good movie. It is a tad too long, but I recommend it to anyone who wants a mindless summer blockbuster that is surprisingly funny and very entertaining.
