Well, lookee here... I'm back.
I really wasn't feeling the urge to blog lately, and it isn't like there hasn't been a lot to report or anything like. My dedication with blogging went downhill as my addiction to Facebook began to rise, and I guess I was just more enamored with the instant gratification of the status update instead of the writer's block of blogging.
All of this changed this week when I visited a friend of mine's blog. I was reading through his stuff, and I missed the outlet for my voice. Now, I don't know if I'm going to be back to the heady days of 2007-2008 when I was doing damn near every day, but we'll see how it goes.
---------------------------------
Last night, my friends made our annual pilgrimage to the Indiana State Fair. I'm not sure how big Fairs are outside of the Midwest, but we mainly go for the deep fried goodness that is the food opportunities. It is always interesting what the latest "discovery" in oily gastronomy is, but that is just part of the charm of the fair.
This year we waited a bit longer than we typically do because Indy Pride, the Rainbow Chamber, and Indiana Equality sponsored an unofficial "Red Day. So, there were a lot of gays out there in Red. My favorite part was walking up to people I know who weren't wearing red and blurting "Even without the red shirt, we still know you're gay!" Yeah, I'm an ass. :)
Anyway, I really didn't eat all that much. I had my traditional corn dog and elephant ear, which are my nutritional requirements for the State Fair. I also tossed in a Gyro, which is where I think things went awry.
After we left the fair, we went back to the Metro for some cocktails, and I just wasn't feeling it. I had one cocktail, and I tried to make my way out of the bar (which was harder to do than you think...friends kept coming in). I was able to get home, watch Project Runway, and even get in some sleep. Then, well, things started to happen. I popped some Maalox, hoping it would fix it. Alas, it didn't. I won't go into the gory details, but it was not a pleasant time.
I'm really not one of those people that lament the passage of time. I never really saw 30 as certain gay death, and I've actually been a lot happier in my 30s than I ever was in my 20s. However, the fact that a night at the fair now results in a phalanx of Maalox, really just sucks...a lot!

Friday, August 15 - The Indiana State Fair
We decided not to go to the Indiana State Fair last night, because it was raining for most of the day yesterday. Of course, as soon as we called it and canceled with everyone, the sky cleared off. Grrrr...it looked like no elephant ear for me this year.
However, after a quick decision, I am happy to report:
The major plan for the night was to drive to Columbus, IN for the viewing of my godmother. Yes, I just went from elephant ears into death, but when you think about it, one certainly causes the other. So, it's like irony and stuff. Anyway, my mother sent me a freaked out email on Wednesday about the sudden death of my godmother, and while I cannot say I'm exacty torn up (heck, it's been nearly 10...maybe 15 years since I saw her) and its not like I'm exactly a model for the Catholic faith, which is what the godparents are supposed to do, I'm kind of more upset for what this means for my mother. My parents are 61 years old, and I think this may be the first of one of their good friends to die of natural causes. I think when you reach a certain age and your friends start to pass, its the human thing to start thinking about your own mortality. It doesn't help that Mary Beth died from an absolutely freak liver condition that she didn't have any idea she had until it took her life -- quickly. So, tomorrow, I get to have a wonderfully uncomfortable hour drive with my parents to a funeral, which have always given me the willys. Yes, tomorrow is shaping up to be a great day.
Okay, enough of that, back to the fair. After I got the memo that the I wasn't going to be able to get out of the funeral by going to the viewing tonight and once I got the details on my trip to tour the brans spanking new Lucas Oil Stadium tomorrow night, I decided to hop on my bike and go solo to the State Fair. In some part of my mind, I figured that the nearly 8 mile trek (with a trip to the ATM) would some how balance out the fact that I was about to throw lots of bad food into my gullet. Try not to laugh too hard...okay? In the end, I really didn't eat too poorly, I started with a turkey breast sandwich, then I had my favorite corn dog on the planet, washed down with a lemon shake up, and I ended the whole night with the above elephant ear. I figure that was a good 2000 calories. Oy...where's my feather!?
As I am prone to do when I'm by myself, I walked around and took pictures of the weirder things in the world. I'm going to end the blog with a slideshow, but I want to point out some of the ones that I loved the most:
