On Friday, we had an "A" gay Halloween Party, which really wasn't that much of an "A" gay event because I think the real "A" gays don't go out. To me, "A" gays are the self-absorbed, charity frequenters who flaunt the fact that they have tons of disposable income by being supportive of every charity out there and giving off that distinct odor of "I'm really just doing this so I don't look like a self-involved douche." Now, at the end of the day, it is great that they support the causes. I know I would love to be able to do it more, but sometimes it just seems so disingenuous. Maybe I am just being skeptical...
Anyway, so this really wasn't an "A" gay party, but it is really just a lot of people that Romeo, HR, Blanche, and I are just more acquaintances with either through IndyPride or just by going out. I wouldn't say we go out of way to be involved with them, and I get the sneaking suspicion that we're merely tolerated. For my part, the party had free booze (well, technically free after paying $20 to a charity to get in), and free booze makes me a happy person.
I had actually met up with Romeo earlier in the day to buy some finishing touches for my costume, which was really just a kitchen sink wizard (ya know, I threw everything but the kitchen sink onto it). We struggled to find a suitable mask, and we even toyed with being uber-gay and making our own, but we ended up spray painting my headdress from silver to gold and buying the gold mask to match. We then met up with Blanch at HR's house, and we ate some pizza, started drinking, and commenced the getting ready for the party. Blanche decided to be a vampire this year, and HR dressed up as Mozart. Romeo decided he was going to protest going to a supposed "A" party, people who tend to only socialize with him when he is out of town, by wearing a costume that completely hid his face behind a dark piece of gauzy fabric. I think we all had a pretty good time that night, but alas, I did not get any pictures, which made Mom very angry!
Now, Saturday was the main event. I did my usual Saturday chores, which took a bit longer than usual because I had two weeks worth of laundry. By the time I got home, I had very little time to take a nap or anything before having to meet Blanche and Mom at HR's again to get ready for the 27th Annual Bag Lady Bus Tour. Blanche dressed as Jackie Kennedy, Mom was a saucy Boy Scout den mother, and I dressed as Sweeney Todd. Mom had to run up to pick Romeo up from work at 6:00, and he had to get into his Geisha costume in the van on the way back down to Greg's. It was kind of stressful getting everyone together, but we actually all got to Greg's on time.
The Bag Lady Tour happens every Halloween, and bars and restaurants pay money to have a bunch of drunken revelers, mostly drag queens, come in and harass their customers for charity (The Gregory Powers DEFA fund for emergency assistance to people with HIV/AIDS). It is a lot of fun, and this is the second year that Blanche and I have done it. HR, who had a miserable time, decided not to go this year, and we drafted Romeo and Mom to join us this year. I have to say that I had a much better time this year than I did last year, and that is even in light of the fact that one drag queen threw up on the bus, unleashing a river of red Jello shots. It was very "Carrie."
If I went into every minute detail of the tour, I would be here all day. So, I will just give some highlights and an overall impression. The tour started at 7:00 at Greg's with two charter buses and a third bus, which was gutted and redecorated as sort of a party bus. This bus was the only place on the tour you could smoke, and oddly, the bus was sponsored and painted with the logo of Jiffy Lube, which frankly, has so many possible jokes, I will just let you write your own.
Here are a couple of pictures from The 10, which is a scary lesbian bar here in town.
Mom smiling, while Blanche exits the stageAll in all, I think all four of us had a great time, though I think Mom was a little scared by the trip to the bathhouse. No big shock there, but she was a trooper. She went into every bar. Of course, the night cannot end with out some sort of personal trauma for me, and that came in the form of seeing Tyler out for the first time since we broke up. I was able to avoid him at Metro, but I was not able to at Greg's. I wasn't really sure what I should say, or if I should say anything. Plus, the fact that we were both drunk, didn't really make for the most ideal conditions. We did talk a little bit, and we drunkenly flirted a little bit, too. The end result is that we are sort of talking again, but I wouldn't say we are exactly on the road to getting back together. It is more of a sorting out/postmortem thing, which is really just an acknowledgment that we should not have left it the way we did. Even with all the drama, I do miss him. I will say that, but I think that is only natural. We shall see. I will blog about that another day.
I am bringing this to a close. I still need to talk about my review (not wonderful) and Skareeoke last night. I will hopefully be able to get up to date tomorrow. Happy Halloween!
