Friday, October 19, 2007 - TGIF....damn, it's Monday Already

I am sorry for not blogging yesterday, but frankly, I just didn't really have that much to say. On Wednesday, I decided to take the afternoon off, which basically lead to a long nap, hitting the gym, and then settling in for a night on the couch. Thursday was pretty much the same, though I did work the whole day.

I am happy to say I made it through an entire week of my new workout without feeling like I needed a shot of morphine to walk around. Since I have the fundraiser for work today, I didn't get to take the rest day between day 2 and 3, but since it was basically exercising different muscle groups, it wasn't really that bad of a thing. After completing the first week, I am struck with just how much strength I have lost during my nebulous workout schedule over the last few months, and at least, I now have certifiable facts to motivate me. So, for the first time in a long time, I am completely back on my high protein diet and on a regular workout routine. This is good, and I need to make sure I keep it up through the doldrums of the winter months.

As self analysis, I am amazed at just how weak my shoulders and abs are, but in retrospect, this is not really that big of a surprise. When I did hit the gym, I was most likely to work the chest, biceps and triceps, and even on those rare weeks that I got multiple times in the gym, I have always avoided back and shoulder work. I suppose it comes down to the fact that I just don't really know that many exercises for it, and I have certainly never mastered the art of the dead lift. As for abs, I had come to the conclusion a long time ago that my body type, genetic history, and lack of dedication for having a borderline eating disorder is just not conducive to having abs, which just lead to neglect. My legs are still in pretty good shape thanks to all the biking I have done during the summer, but the rest of my bod just needs work. I am hoping to keep this workout up during the winter, and by the time spring and summer rolls around, I will be back into the shape I like.

Anyway, you're probably wondering about the title of the blog. Yeah, it's Friday, but my weekend is already pretty booked. I have the fundraiser tonight, which should be interesting because it is one of the first time one of my ideas is being put to use, and a large group of my friends in and out of work will be interacting with my parents, which could devolve into a episode of "Parents say the Darnedest Things." Then tomorrow, I am spending all day at the RCA Dome for the Indiana State Marching Band Finals. I was/am a big marching band nerd, and after last years less than spectacular showing of the 40 bands in competition, Blanche and I had sort of decided to skip this year. However, this is the last year that the finals will be in the RCA Dome because the new Lucas Oil Stadium will be open by next year. So, we figured we should give it one more go, for old times sake. On Sunday, I have got to do some Halloween shopping. I really do not need that much stuff for my wizard and Sweeney Todd, but I need it by next weekend...another packed one!
