The theme of yesterday's workout was to shock the lower half of your body into submission, and considering that my upper body is still pretty sore from Monday, I am pretty much a (barely) walking pile of pain. Even when I was in my best of shape, my lower body was by far the most neglected muscle group. I was all about the chest and arms, just like a typical male. Plus, I saw greater results from those groups. Going into the workout, I thought it was going to be cake, but the more I looked at it, the more apprehensive I got about it.
There were only 5 exercises, which I did four of them in a set, and I saved the stability ball work for last because it was difficult to get enough space for all the equipment needed. The worst part about doing legs is the fact that there are so few exercises that you can do that work both legs at once. So, when you have to work legs individually and in this case 20 reps at a time, it just seems disheartening to start at 1 and have to count to 40 for anything. This is where the mental games is important, but I'll admit: I am a wuss when it comes to leg exercises. I made it through all the exercises, though I had to adjust the weight down on the squats and lunges, but I am pretty happy with winning that mental battle.
Unfortunately, today's workout is the real kick off of the 12 week program. The past two days were really samples of what is to come so you could work on your form and weight. The program is designed around supersets of 2 to 3 exercises, and frankly, it looks like it is going to kick my ass (even more). I am leaning towards making today my "active rest" day. With as sore as I am, I think it would be counter-productive to just try to slog through another day. I am not trying to talk myself out of this, but seriously, when I'm ambling down the hallway like a 75 year old man in a nursing home, I really do not think it is that bad of a thing to skip.
Last night, before he went to work, Tyler came over to hang out. I hadn't seen him since Sunday, so it was a nice treat. As I have stated before, he works third shift on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday so we really have divergent schedules during that time, and since I have a meeting tonight at 7, I am not sure I will get to see him until tomorrow. So, it was good for him to come over for a little bit. After he left for work, even though I could barely peel myself of the couch, I went out to meet Blanch, Romeo, and Mom at the Metro for Karaoke. Xena Lesbian Princess was out with her friend Red Sonya (I really haven't asked her for a blog name, but I've been told she is communist, so I think it fits) As part of my training, I vowed to limit alcohol consumption, and I only had one rum and diet and one glass of beer. I feel good about that, too. Though I have to say it limited my ability to enjoy the craziness that is Karaoke. Of course, I was wiped out and it was blazing hot, which I am sure is the main reason I was feeling surly.
I got home around a quarter after midnight, and even though I was about to drop, I popped some popcorn and finished watching The Biggest Loser and Eureka. I've been having trouble sleeping lately, and I really wanted to reach the point of exhaustion so I could get a solid few hours of rest. I did get that, but when I woke up, I felt like I was in a body cast. I better get a ripped bod out of this! :-D

Way to go on the workout! I'm using your blog as a motivator to keep me moving along. I really like the new layout and heading pic.
I hope you get some better sleep in the coming nights....
