Eh, it's back to work, and while I did achieve the goal of cleaning my apartment (I had to force myself to do it by inviting people over for a Movie/Wii night), I did not get around to changing my blog, which, as with most things in my life, has gone from simply changing the look to completely moving to my own domain and hosting package. Yes, folks, after many years of doing my own website and almost two years of being on Blogger, I am now moving back to having my own website, with a blog as the main component.
I really hadn't planned on doing this. The main reason I stopped paying for hosting is because that $99 a year + domain registration just became one of those not really necessary expenses, but as 2008 went on and I was setting up the Indy Pride website on my favorite hosting service, Fat Cow, the price had dropped to $88 a year. Then a few weeks ago, it went down even further to $66, and as the price limbo'd lower, my dissatisfaction with how difficult it was to work within the confines of Blogger began to become even more acute. Then, right before Christmas, they dropped the bomb on me: $30 a year hosting for a personal site! The offer expired today, and as of yesterday, I am once again own my own website.
I haven't reserved a domain name yet, and I am not even sure what the look is going to be. I will say that the name "I may be from Indiana, but I am NOT an Idiot" will not be making the move. It's dead, Jim. I'm pretty sure I am going to base the site off of the WordPress blog software, but that is not a done deal yet. What I really want to have is a multifunctional website that will not only serve as my blog space, but it will also be the defacto portfolio for my somewhat unorganized website and burgeoning graphic design business. I'm still working out the details in my head, and for the time being, I will still be spewing my invective here at Blogger.
So thank you for being patient. I am excited about the move, and I think it is going to open up a lot of different opportunities for me to expand and expound on things I hold near and dear. I will let you know when I am ready to move over to the new domain, and if I cannot find a way to port over the postings here, I may keep this blog up indefinitely.
