Monday, December 8th - Busy Weekend!

This was a fairly busy weekend, though next weekend is going to be crazy!

Actually, going back to Thursday, I met up with Blanche, Athena, and Romeo at Olly's for some after work cocktails. Cheap drinks are back...yay! It was good to hang out with everyone, and despite the fact that upon returning home I slipped on a patch of ice in my parking lot, ripping my jeans, and leaving a wound the size of Texas on my knee, it was still a good night. Yeah...the chuck taylors are going in the closet for the winter, that's for damned sure!

I was in a great deal of pain on Friday morning, though it was more from the inflexibility of the scab (sorry to be gross). So, I worked from home, which ended up being a bad idea because some server issues reared their head. Not good! *hour long break* It just did again, but I think I have it figured out. Hopefully, the server hasn't been damaged. Lord...I need a Christmas Miracle.

Anywhoo, Friday night, I met Athena to go see Twilight. Unbeknownst to me, she had read the whole series, and she had been waiting for the crowds of screaming girls to die down. Before we went to the movie, we went to the calendar signing for the Naptown Roller Girls, who have two teams called the Tornado Sirens and the Warning Belles. Our friend and fellow blogger, Xena is a new member of the team, and let me tell ya, I'm looking forward to seeing her kick some ass this season. The calendar is VERY well done, and if I had a brain in my head, I would have been carrying cash so I could buy one.

After leaving the gallery that was holding the signing, we had some time to kill until the movie started, so we stopped to get some snacks at Kroger. Well, Athena bought milk to take home, and I bought a bottle of rum (yo ho ho) and some yogurt covered pretzels. I am such a felon. In one week, I've seen three movies in a row and only paid for one AND smuggled booze in. I'll probably be cursed to watch Adam Sandler and Chris Farley movies for all eternity in my own personal hell.

This time around, I have to say I still enjoyed Twilight quite a bit. Since I have now read the book, I feel like I was able to pick up on a lot more stuff that I had missed the first time around, and I also got to appreciate the direction of Catherine Hardwicke. The fact is, she took a pretty passable book and made it into pretty excellent popcorn flick. While a lot of the credit can go to the Elliot Davis' cinematography for how the picture looked, it would be nothing without a strong director who can frame a shot well. This is why I am now a little apprehensive about New Moon, because it was announced this morning that Hardwicke isn't coming back due to scheduling conflicts. Of course, there is some subtext to the stories that Hardwicke might be "difficult," but I have to wonder if this is Hollywood sexism again because Michael Bay is an asshole who manages to still find steady work. Ah well, maybe it will be good for the franchise. Harry Potter certainly benefited from moving away from Christopher Columbus. We shall see...

I went out for a bit after the movie, but I didn't stay out too late. Saturday was pretty much a dull, grey laundry and nap day, though I ended up meeting up with Blanche, Romeo, Roqstar, and Sleepy for some cheap drinks at Olly's. Romeo and I ended up going to Greg's for a hot minute, but I left shortly after Romeo did.

Sunday morning I got up and worked on the Indy Sports Foundation website. They made some changes that pretty much wrecked my navigation, which is making me completely redo the site. Yay! I should ask for more money, but seeing as they are a not for profit, I can't really do that in good conscience.

I spent much of the afternoon surfing the web and catching up on som TV, and last night, I went over to Talbott Street for the Holiday Diva Show, which was being put on by Indy Pride in support of the United Christmas Service. I ended up wrapping up a gift my grandmother had bought for me that I never used. It was something I had planned on donating at work, but it has sit in my room for almost a year now. It certainly wasn't a "fun" gift, but I think it'll be useful to the family. Plus, it was the biggest gift...hehe. All in all, this was a great program, which had local performers singing traditional holiday tunes, and a special shout out goes to Cadillac Barbie for coming up with the idea in the first place.

I was home by 11, popped some popcorn, and watched Desperate Housewives. And that folks, was my weekend. Exciting, huh? Next weekend has two Christmas parties, two Bag Lady/Drag shows to attend, AND a 6 hour board retreat. Oy!

Oh, and in case you didn't see it, Amy Poehler came back to SNL for another go as Hillary. I hope they keep bringing her back periodically in the next 4 years:
