Monday, June 9th - Circle City IN Pride, Day 2 (The Day After)

Oh dear god, I was so exhausted last night. I had planned on staying out later and celebrating a successful Pride Skate at Olly's and then possibly Greg's, but by the time we got to Olly's to get some grub, I actually had to drink a cup of coffee to keep from falling off my stool into a heap.

Backing up...

Since I didn't end up doing anything on Saturday, I relaxed with a cocktail and some Guitar Hero. I suck so bad at the game, but at least on the easy setting, I "RAWK." I was in bed at a reasonable hour, and after a weekend of torrential rain, I was happy to wake up to a sunny day. Since it was supposed to be soul suckingly hot that day, I decided to motivate myself to an early morning bike ride. 23 miles later, I was home in a heap of sweaty clothes, and wondering what the inclusion of an odometer to my bike is going to do to my inherent competitive streak. I'm clearly obsessed with making it go higher, especially now that I broke 50 total miles (in less than two weeks, which is pretty good considering this was my only long bike ride, the rest being a few miles at a time).

After throwing myself in the shower and eating a light lunch, I met up with the Skate Committee at Olly's for a pre-picnic cocktail or two. The other event on Sunday was the Pride Picnic, which is usually the Sunday after the actual Pride Festival, but since that is going to be Father's Day, they moved it to the Sunday before, which obviously confused people because the attendence was pretty light (though it could have also been the blistering 91 degree heat). After that, we decided to head back to Olly's and waste the rest of the time we had until we could get into the skating rink to setup.

I'm happy to say that the Skate was a complete and utter success. I was extremely worried about the participation of the Roller Girls, which was just a variable that we couldn't control (yes, Nick: Control Freak Extraordinaire). They either showed up or they didn't, but I was thrilled to see that some of them actually beat us there. So, we were good to go. Everything else went off without a hitch. We ended up with 171 people at the event. While that is not an earth shattering number, it was more than triple the number of people from last year. We actually made money, too. The mixture of people attending was just incredible: gay, lesbian, and straight friendly; small children, teens, and adults; and some people were just there to watch and be supportive. It was pretty darn fantastic. If I can get around to going through my pictures and videos tonight, I'll try to get some posted.

Tonight's Pride Activity: A sing-a-long version of "The Wizard of Oz" to support the LGBT Film Festival.

In closing, a moment of Golden Girls zen:
