Tuesday, February 19th - Idle Hands and Thoughts

I had yesterday off, and while I certainly could have written something, I decided to just hunker down and clear out my Tivo. Oh, what a tremendously stressful day!

The weekend was pretty uneventful, too, but after being sick as a dog last weekend, I'm not really going to complain all that much. I went out with the Mean Girls on Friday, and it had literally been a month and a half since we'd done our semi-normal Friday routine, and outside of the hanging out with my friends portion, I can't say I missed it all that much. Plus, my bartender wasn't there, which was good for my brain cells but not for the overall quality of my drinks.

Sunday night, I met up with Romeo at Olly's, and we drank a few and threw some darts, where he handily kicked my ass, which is typical...except when I get the occasional hot streak. It was a slow night at Olly's, which meant that Karaoke was taken over by the ballad singers, which really just makes me want to drink more. Seriously, do they think that anyone in that room thinks their navel gazing is entertaining? Karaoke Masturbators!

Saturday is where I got in trouble. After going to my parent's house and working on their new computer and getting their wireless network running, I came home and started watching TV. Tyler was babysitting his nephews, so I had the night to myself, which lead to an idea that had been brewing in my head for while becoming a full on reality. Cutting my hair. Ever since the girl who had been cutting my hair for the last six years went on maternity leave and never came back, I have been going to a Great Clips, which has actually been pretty good, though it is always a crap shoot. I always keep my hair short, so it is not like it is a complicated cut, but I have been itching to do something a little different.

Through child and early adulthood, I pretty much had the exact same haircut, except for an unfortunate flirtation with the spike in 7th grade (hey, everyone was doing it, and at least I never had a mullet *cough*Blanche*cough*). I had the uber-preppy side part, which worked pretty well for my general dorkiness. Then in college where the whole gay thing started inching its way into view, I really wanted to do something different. The problem was that after doing the same thing for 20 years, my hair really would not do anything else without some retraining. So, I cut it all off. I had a buzz with a number 3 guard, and instead of paying for someone else to do it, I bought clippers, a vacuum attachment (NOT A FLOBEE), and I cut it myself. This was a pretty easy thing to do, and the only part that needed outside intervention was cleaning up the neck. I did this for a while, until I started growing the top of my hair out, and I ended up going to the same guy at SuperCuts for a few years until started up with the above mentioned woman who abandoned me for childrearing.

Anyway, I decided I wanted to pull a Britney and shave my hair off. The problem is that through various iterations of my hair style, I had gotten down to the number 1 guard on the clippers, which is pretty much one step up from nothing. I was not prepared to do that to my entire head. So, I started out with the number 3, but that wasn't really doing anything to my sides. So, I sucked it up and went to the number 2. The hair on top of my head had become pretty long (for me), and I really started to freak out when I saw how short it was. Obviously, there was no turning back, so I just continued to mow. It has taken some getting used to, but I actually like it.

The bottom line though is that this is why I shouldn't be left alone for long periods of time!

Taking your hairstyle matters into your own hans is pretty ballsy. But I think it turned out well!

Awww...thanks, gentleman ;)

I was actually going to call the cut the "Cooper," but I forgot to put that in the text. I'll need to go back and do that!
