November 20, 2007 - Gathering, Vokda Infusing, Tailgating, Thanksgiving, Celine Dion

No, I didn't have some sort of grand mal seizure when I wrote the title. I just have a lot to cover in a little bit of space.

Picking up with Friday. I worked until about 2:00, and then I went home to finish making the brownies (peanut butter icing and chocolate ganache on top of that). I then headed to the north side to get Cocoa Bean Nibs for a vodka infusion, get the rest of the grocery items for the jello shots, buy wine for Thanksgiving, and pick up Romeo from work. As, I have said in the past, I pretty much despise driving on the north side of town because it is always a cesspool of traffic. Of course, this was almost rush hour, too - ugh.

After I picked up Romeo, we went back to his place to pickup his stuff, and we went back to my place to start work on the jello shots. Additionally, Mom, Rockstar, Blanche, and HR came over to help out, drink, and play the Wii. HR was the first one there, and he had the privilege of cleaning and carving a pumpkin for me to use in a vodka infusion. I was happy to hand this job off, and he got to play Super Mario Galaxy out of it. So, it was pretty much a win/win situation. Everyone shuffled in by 8, and Romeo and I continued to work on the jello shots, with me working on the infusions in the off time.

I suppose I should explain the infusions. For the past three years, I have had a party the Saturday after Thanksgiving, which is called Family Detox, Public Intox, and last year, I started doing my own vodka infusions, which is really just soaking vodka in a given ingredient for a certain amount of time. The whole concept went over pretty well, and I am adding it to the tradition. This year I am adding a rum to the mix, because I am really more of a rum drinker. The vodka's flavors are: Pumpkin Spice, Chocolate, and Cranberry-Vanilla, with the rum being Pomegranate-Vanilla. After infusing since Friday, they all smell pretty wonderful. I will blog more about this next week.

Back to Friday, everyone was pretty much gone by 11, and we crashed out shortly there after because we had to get up early to tailgate on Saturday. We were on the road by about 10:00, which got us down to Indiana University by about 11. Blanche, Romeo, HR, and I weren't going to the game, so we pretty much just sat around and drank all day, which was a lot of fun. The weather was pretty wonderful, too...all things considered. We got back to Indy around 8:00, and since I had pretty much been going non-stop since Thursday morning, I crashed pretty hard.

Then on Sunday, I had family Thanksgiving at my parent's house. I spent most of the day playing the Wii with my nieces, and now that my youngest niece has grasped the concept of Wii Bowling, she proceeded to kick all of our asses. She is going to be 5. Maybe I am thinking too hard, and I should just slam the controller around for better effect. It was a pretty fun and low key day, but I was still feeling the creeping exhaustion I had been feeling for a while. Plus, both of my nieces were sick. I was sitting there thinking, "Good Lord, I am going to be so sick next week." It hasn't come to pass yet, but I do have to say I feel something coming on. Great!

Finally, when I get home from my parent's house, I watch the crappy American Music Awards. Celine Dion sings her new song, Taking Chances, and I end up doing something I have never done before. I actually purchased it on I-tunes. Now, I wouldn't say I despise Celine, but after hearing so many insane homosexuals butcher her over the years at Karaoke, I cannot say she is someone that I would go out of my way to listen to. The main reason I like her new song is because it really doesn't sound too much like her. Plus, it is an incredibly difficult song vocally, which I hope means that some crazy homosexual with absolutely no voice capability will think twice about singing it (right, who am I kidding).

Okay, I know I pretty much completely glossed over most of the events of the weekend, but it was really a blur. I was quite happy to just sit on my ass last night and watch TV, which I had not been able to really do since last week. Since I will not have official family Thanksgiving duties on the actual holiday, I will be blogging through the week. If you are leaving town or at least your computer, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
