When Jordin Sparks won American Idol, I have to say I was happy more because Blake didn't win, because that beat boxing he insisted on doing almost every performance was like an ice pick to the temple. It is not that Jordin hadn't wowed me through the competition because she had, especially with Shirley Bassey's "I Who Have Nothing." However, she was a little too All American - Awe Shucks for me. Maybe she will have third album meltdown like Kelly to make her a bit more interesting.
Anyway, her first single, "Tattoo," came out a few months ago, and unfortunately, it was not about a drunken night on the American Idol tour where she got "The Love Butt" tattooed on her ass. It is your basic, midtempo R&Bish ballad that was pretty forgettable from the first listen, and forget it, I did. Then it started playing incessantly on my Yahoo Jukebox, and I found myself singing it and thinking "Who the hell sings this song?" So, I came to enjoy the song. Now that the tour is over, and American Idol is getting sued for child labor laws because of our dear Jordin, they have released a video for the song. It is your basic thing, which really looks like they gave a teenager some cash and told her to run with it. In the end, it is just "ok" for an "ok' song. Give it a watch and comment:
