When I was able to get a DVR through my cable company, my life changed. I was able to record two shows at once AND watch another one I had recorded. My TV life became so much more efficient, and of course, being able to zoom through commercials made it easier to cram even more viewing into a night. Yes, I realize this is a pop culture compulsion, but it is something I enjoy. So sue me. Since we are on the brink of a new television season, it thought I would detail in my blog the shows I plan on catching. A lot of these shows may be new, and once I sample them, I might not continue to watch them, but I will indicate which ones I am most excited about. The major problem I face is that some of the summer shows have not finished their runs yet. That totally throws a wrench in my plans because I have to see the endings of Damages, Saving Grace, Eureka, Burn Notice, and even Mad Men (luckily none of these are on godforsaken Wednesday...you'll see this is). :-)
Sunday:
8:00 Viva Laughlin - CBS (New Show Curiosity)
9:00 Desperate Housewives - ABC
10:00 Brother's & Sisters - ABC
10:00 Battlestar Galactica - Sci Fi (February)
Viva Laughlin is an Americanized version of the BBC show Viva Blackpool, and while it is being produced by Hugh Jackman, this is really just a curiosity for me. It takes place in a Laughlin, Nevada, and it supposedly has musical interludes. I am not sold on it, but I won't be missing Desperate Housewives and Brother's & Sisters. DH has been spotty, but I am still attached to it. B&S became an absolute favorite over the course of last season. I am throwing in BSG even though it does not premier until next year. For me, it is literally the best show on television, and it has a lot more going on than just life in space. Heck, the beginning of last season was pretty much a roman-a-clef for Iraq. It is simply great.
Monday:
8:30 Aliens in America - CW (New Show Curiosity)
9:30 Samantha Who? - ABC (New Must See)
8:00 Chuck (New Show Curiosity)
9:00 Heroes
Heroes is really my only must see on this night. Chuck looks interesting. I love Christina Applegate. So, I will give Samantha Who? a try, and it is getting pretty good buzz. The concept is that Applegate plays a person who has amnesia, and she starts to find out that she used to be a terrible person and tries to make amends. Aliens in America is also getting great buzz for a CW show. It is about a Muslim Pakistani getting plopped into Wisconsin. It might actually turn out to be good.
Tuesday:
8:00 The Biggest Loser - NBC
8:00 American Idol - Fox (January)
9:00 Reaper - CW (New Show Must See)
10:00 Boston Legal - ABC
The only thing I really enjoy about The Biggest Loser is the weigh in at the end of the show. So, I am not really that dedicated to watching the entire 90 minutes. Reaper is a new show that is getting pretty good notices, and I think the lead is kind of cute. :) The basic premise of the show is that the lead's parents sold his soul to the devil before he was born, and now he has to go and capture demons who have escaped the underworld. Yes, it is bizarre, but did I mention the lead is cute? I also adore Boston Legal because it is SO politically incorrect. Plus, it has Candace Bergen in it, and I would watch her read the phone book.
Wednesday:
8:00 Pushing Daisies - ABC (New Show Curiosity)
8:00 American's Next Top Model - CW
9:00 American Idol Results (January)
9:00 Private Practice - ABC (New Show Must See)
9:00 Bionic Woman - NBC (New Show Must See)
9:00 Gossip Girl - CW (New Show Curiosity)
10:00 Dirty Sexy Money - ABC (New Show Curiosity)
10:00 Lost - ABC (February)
I am SO screwed. Wednesday is chock full of shows that I am curious about or NEED to watch, and I can only record two shows at once. Do you see the traffic jam at 9:00? Seriously! Of course, if AT&T gets around to putting their Uverse service in my area, I will be able to record four shows at once. Here's to hoping it happens before January! Pushing Daisies probably has the best buzz of any new show this year. It is pretty quirky. It is basically a detective story where the main character can bring people back from the dead with a touch, and then return them to the afterlife with another. He uses this to solve crimes until he brings is childhood crush back to life, and now he must resist touching her again. Private Practice is the spin off of Grey's Anatomy, and I am apprehensively looking forward to it. I love Kate Walsh and her character, but I am not sure Shonda Rhimes can catch lightening in the bottle twice. Bionic Woman is from one of the producer/creators of the new Battlestar Galactica, and with that pedigree, I am in from the beginning. Gossip Girl is never going to be watched unless I decide not to watch either Private Practice or Bionic Woman. All of this is thrown into hell when American Idol premiers. I am so screwed!
Thursday:
8:00 Ugly Betty - ABC
8:00 Survivor: China - CBS
9:00 Grey's Anatomy - ABC
10:00 Big Shots - ABC (New Show Curiosity)
Ahhh, sedate Thursday. Ugly Betty has become a must see for me, and while I have had a love/hate relationship with Survivor, I am watching this year just because I have a fascination with China. I am hoping Grey's gets out of the creative slump it was in late last season, but I am still of a mind that bad Grey's is better than half the other crap on TV. Big Shots goes back to the attractive men in the cast: Dylan McDermott and Michael Vartan.
Friday:
9:00 Women's Murder Club - ABC (New Show Curiosity)
9:00 Moonlight - CBS (New Show Curiosity)
9:00 Friday Night Lights - NBC
10:00 Las Vegas - NBC
Honestly, I have no commitment to any of these shows, and I may not end up watching them at all. Angie Harmon is in Women's Murder Club, and while I have liked her since her stint on Law & Order, it just sounds like an interesting premise. Moonlight sounds too much like Angel (vampire private eye), and while Friday Night Lights is good, I felt it to be a bit of a downer last season. Las Vegas has always been a guilty pleasure because of Josh Duhamel.
Saturday:
Rest and Catch-up
So you can see. I am a TV junky. This is why I never answer my phone. :-)
