Yesterday was another uneventful day at work, and I skipped out a little early so I could get to the gym before going to see Tyler in the evening. My poor legs were still pretty sore, and as soon as I climbed on my bike to go to the gym, I wished for the sweet release of death. The good thing is that the more I worked the legs, the better they felt, but the problem really isn't in the sitting position. It is when I want to stand up and walk around. Lordy, at this rate, I won't be able to work my legs until sometime next week.
The Mea Culpa in the title is for the abandonment of my 12 week program. Yes, I know I should give it fair shake, but I know how I operate. It is better to cut my loses now. The real problem is the concept of a program. The whole idea of supersets work great if you have the gym to yourself, but when you need to move to another exercise with a limited amount of rest in between, it just stresses the hell out of me when I see someone else using the equipment that I need to use next. Plus, when I started to do the Day 3 workout, I literally couldn't make it through the first superset without whittling down on the reps. Now, I am no weakling, but any program that requires you to do 259 push ups of various styles throughout various supersets is really only for hardcore muscle freaks. These are also not your garden variety push ups, too. It includes the push up to the one armed balance T position AND one armed, Jack Palance push ups. Kill me now!
So, yesterday, I just went back to my old format, and since I was still sore, I am happy that I did a workout at all. The main problem I have been having this year is just getting my sorry ass to the gym, and I think I have broken through that problem this week, despite the pain. I am just going to sit down this weekend and dissect the 12 week program, and I will create something for myself that works all the muscle groups. I am also looking at cardio classes at the my gym to augment. I just have to make sure that I keep going to the gym. I know just getting back on my diet and getting to the gym regularly will pretty much bring me back to where I was. I feel like I have turned a corner, which is very good.
Last night, I went to hang out with Tyler, and we had a good time. I actually got him to watch Survivor: China with me, which means my corruption of the non-TV watcher is beginning. :-) Next stop: America's Next Top Model! This weekend is blissfully unplanned, other than a family get together on Sunday for my Father's 60th birthday. Next weekend is Romeo's big party, and I will be helping with prep on that, and then, lord god, it is going to be October already!
