Monday was a pretty uneventful day as a whole. I did end up going into work for a little while to do some things that needed to be done and to print off some lengthy reports that I was pretty sure would send my little ink jet printer into an early grave. All in all, I was on-sight for about a total of 30 minutes, and then I spent the rest of the day at home working on reports and waiting on the maintenance guy who never showed up.
Now, I would think that a ceiling leaking would be pretty high on the priority of a landlord...especially if I wasn't a conscientious tenant who actually put a bucket underneath the drip. If I hadn't done that, I'm sure the wood floors would have loved it, not to mention the person below me. It stormed again briefly in the evening, and of course, my ceiling tit (see yesterday's post) started to lactate again. I guess this just proves that it wasn't just a one time thing due to the amount of rain in a short time on Monday morning. So, I called maintenance again, but I didn't stay home this time. I kinda wish I had...
Yesterday, I caught up with some TV that I had been Tivoing but hadn't really watched yet. Whenever I start recording a show, I will only set it to save two weeks worth of shows, because I figure if I don't have time to see something in two weeks, then I probably won't have time at all. Here are the shows I'm recommending for the summer:
1. Damages - F/X - This is the Glenn Close vehicle that has been in the news a lot lately, and it airs on F/X on Tuesday nights. Since it is on F/X, they really get to push the envelope of what is allowed on broadcast and cable television. I'm not saying it is full on HBO level, but there is quite a bit of cursing (actually, there is in all three of my recommendations...hmm coincidence?). Anyway, this is a pretty amazing show, with Close pretty much chewing the scenery as a high powered defense attorney in NYC. Now, before you say, "Oh, god, another legal procedural!" this is actually more of a suspense movie spread out over the season. From what I understand, outside of the legal machinations of the rival sides, we will never step foot in the courtroom, and it is really the story of one lawyer and her descent into the unsavory side of the law. The story starts at the end when you find Ellen (Rose Byrn), the up an law graduate running out of a building covered in blood. The time line of the series switches between the present day Ellen and the beginning of her career at Hewes & Associates lead by Patty Hews (Close). While this sort of cross cutting has been used before, I would say it is pretty refreshing here. There is some pretty potent and evil things going on in this story, and there is one (of many) scenes in the pilot that is really pretty gruesome and violent to an animal. My one quibble so far is that they have made Patty Hewes pretty unredeemable, and while I do love evil characters, I'm wondering how they will take this to a second season. Will it be like 24 and be another day and another corrupted law grad?
2. The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman - IFC - This is pretty hard to put into a nut shell, but if you are familiar with the dry, sarcastic humor of Laura Kightlinger (SNL, the Sperm Bank Nurse on Will & Grace), then you'll know what to expect from this since she is the series creator. This is really kind of a drugged out buddy comedy that follows Jackie (Kightlinger) and Tara (Nicholle Tom) as they try to make it Hollywood. It really is over the top in every way, and I have to say I pretty much adore it. On the second season opener, Jackie and Tara pose as lesbians to get a deal on an SUV, and then the SUV is targeted by Christian eco-terrorists! There is a lot more going on in the story than that, but there really isn't a way to explain it further without giving it all away.
3. Saving Grace - TNT - I'm a little unsure about this one so far, but I have only seen the pilot. I love Holly Hunter though, and I'd probably rather watch her in something a little weird than nothing at all. Hunter plays Grace, who is basically a hard living police detective in Oklahoma City. Due to complications from the Oklahoma City bombing (a plot point..so I won't give it away), she is on a downward spiral that leads to her being in a drunk driving accident, which turns out to be a fabrication put on by a tobacco chewing angel named Earl. See, it's kinda weird. She's being given a last chance by god to mend her ways, or basically, she is on a one way ticket to hell. This is a bit too earnest and religious for me, but like I said, I really enjoy Holly Hunter. She manages to elevate the material a bit, and Laura San Giacomo as her best friend the forensics expert is pretty good, too. I still need to see the next couple episodes, but heck, it is better than repeats.
This has been a pretty good summer for brand new material. I really enjoy Burn Notice on USA, too, but I think it is almost done with its limited season. I really can't wait until the fall season starts! :)
Well, I think that is all today. Let me know if you like me doing some reviews like this. My first website actually had a movie review component in it. So, I'm certainly okay with spewing my opinion. :)
The only other thing to report is that Tyler and I have opened up a dialogue again. it is mostly just text messaging right now. I won't mince words. I have missed him. We shall see...

It is with a little sadness that I tell you this, but you'll be suckling on that ceiling tit for a while. My last place had similar issues - issues that indicate a leaky roof which is a major PITA to fix. Generally, the maintenance people will slather on tar in the space between your ceiling and the roof approximately where the leak is which may or may not fix your problem. Be on the lookout for tits forming in other places. Oh, and my prior landlord dragged ass to fix this - I believe because it generally means replacing the roof. It wasn't until I was armed with a lawyer and threats of media attention that the issue got serious attention. Hopefully, your landlord is responsible and gets on top of it.
Ouch, that sucks! When I first moved in, they were having some issues with the roof, but it was isolated to the hallway. They eventually got it fixed up, and there haven't been any issues since. I suppose it just pushed the water to the next likely "tit."
Hmm...It's Van Rooy. I've never had any trouble with them in the past. We'll see how this goes ;) I certainly know people that can make their life hell!
